Kevin Stanton (BFA, Mass Art, 2012) draws his inspiration from the Mission Hill neighborhood of Boston. His work brings together life on the street and life in the studio, the intense moments found in graffiti, and the classical tradition.
“Stanton’s style has a distinctly urban look, located somewhere near the intersection of street art and fine art, spray can meets paint brush. “– Nantucket Today.
Stanton uses fragmented imagery to evoke a feeling of urban decay. His use of what he has come to call a vocabulary of urban hieroglyphics, allows him to delve into the mark making that evokes both the primal scream and the beauty of urban life.
His work ponders the lessons contained in street art, from tagging to murals, and puts them in the arena of fine art.
